Petit rongeur ressemblant un peu à une souris, la gerbille est très attachante et sociable. Il existe plusieurs races parmi ces petits animaux fort sympathiques que l’on trouve facilement dans toutes les animaleries ou les jardineries, mais attention à l’achat impulsif, car il s’agit d’un être vivant à part entière.

Une gerbille est un animal, pas un jouet, il est donc hors de question de l’acquérir pour calmer le caprice du petit dernier. D’ailleurs cet animal n’est pas du tout adapté aux jeunes enfants mais plutôt aux adolescents ou aux adultes férus de rongeurs et d’observation.
La gerbille est un animal grégaire qui a besoin d’un ou plusieurs congénères pour ne pas dépérir.
Son entretien est tout de même contraignant : elle doit être nourrie correctement et sa cage doit être maintenue dans un parfait état de propreté. Comptez une heure par jour à consacrer à votre animal.

Pensez aussi aux autres animaux de votre environnement. Il serait dangereux dans certains cas de laisser promener votre gerbille si vous avez un chien ou un chat car selon les sujets, ils risqueraient de n’en faire qu’une bouchée. Si vous ne pouvez pas lui octroyer quelques heures de liberté sous votre surveillance, évitez de l’adopter surtout si vous avez déjà des animaux.

Comme nous l’avons vu, la gerbille en couple se reproduit ardemment ! Choisissez toujours deux sujets du même sexe qui s’entendent bien si vous ne voulez pas avoir à placer les petits tous les deux mois.
La gerbille est un animal facile à apprivoiser qui aimera se balader sur votre bras et recevoir quelques caresses mais n’en attendez pas plus qu’elle ne peut vous donner !
